Toms Day As The Modern Draper Assistant Buyer

Toms Day As The Modern Draper Assistant Buyer

Hi, its Tom again! Today I’ll be telling you about my first experience as an Assistant Buyer for The Modern Draper.

The day started off bright an early as we headed to Manchester for our first appointment at 10 o’clock. After what seemed a short drive we arrived, and I was itching to meet the brand reps and see all the new pieces for Spring/Summer 21.

Our first appointment was with the guys at Northern Lights Agencies to preview the new Armor Lux Spring/Summer collection. From the second I walked into the showroom, to the second I left, I was submerged in this fashion lifestyle. I found myself trying to pick up the lingo and learn what different phrases meant. The freedom that Chris gave me to choose what I liked, and allowed me to give my opinion on the buy was just what I wanted. I left the showroom extremely excited for what was to come in the upcoming seasons from Armor Lux but also for where we were heading next.

The next appointment was Fila. I entered the showroom with an open mind on Fila but wasn’t totally prepared for what was to come. All I can say in I will be getting my tennis racket ready for next summer.

After a short stop of for lunch at a Japanese-style restaurant called Cottonopolis, we headed to Carhartt. I would personally say this was the biggest and most exciting showroom for me as I have been a lover of Carhartt for many years now, but I must say I was not expecting the sheer size of the showroom and the range of styles the team had in there.  After a good few hours picking the collection apart, Chris and I felt we had a good rail ready for the Summer of 2021. Once again the freedom Chris gave me to share my opinion on the different pieces and the story as a whole was brilliant and I felt it helped grow my confidence massively.

After Carhartt, we headed to our last stop of the day which was the one and only Fred Perry. Since working at the shop my interest in heritage brands and styles has grown massively, and I would say the Fred Perry Reissue pieces should the take credit for that. After a fast intro to the range from Chris at Fred Perry, we sifted through the showroom and put together a story fit for the shop.

After a very busy day Chris and I set off back to the quiet town we call home. I thoroughly enjoyed my first buying trip and to put it into three words I would say “where’s next Chris…” Aside from that, keep your eyes peeled for the new seasons pieces, coming in from all over the world. Spring/Summer 2021 is going to be big!
