A wool knit cap with a round top sewn was used as the headgear for deck members exposed to cold wind at sea. As the origin of the watch cap, binoculars are used to watch and monitor the enemy, so it is a specification without a visor so that it does not get in the way.
A watch cap used by the crew of Cowell (DD-547), a US Navy destroyer commissioned in 1943. The stencil that is squeezed into the uneven knitted fabric is realistically finished.
